Everything you need to know about Luminance
Luminance is an AI image generator that runs entirely on your iPhone or iPad. It uses Apple's Core ML framework and Stable Diffusion 2.1 to create images from text prompts — with no internet connection, no API key, and no data leaving your device.
1. Open Luminance and go to the Generate tab.
2. Type a description of the image you want in the prompt field.
3. Choose a style (e.g. Photorealistic, Anime, Watercolor) and an aspect ratio.
4. Tap the Generate button and wait for the AI to create your image.
Generation typically takes 30–120 seconds depending on your device.
No. Once installed, Luminance works completely offline. The AI model is included with the app and runs entirely on your device. No internet connection is required to generate images.
Luminance supports iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. For best performance, a device with an A14 Bionic chip or newer is recommended (iPhone 12 and later, iPad Pro 2020 and later).
AI image generation is computationally intensive. On a physical device with Apple's Neural Engine, generation typically takes 30–90 seconds. In Xcode Simulator it runs on CPU only, which can take several minutes.
You can reduce generation time by lowering the Steps slider in Settings. Fewer steps = faster but lower quality. 20 steps is a good balance.
Be descriptive and specific. Good prompts include: subject, setting, mood, lighting, and style details.
Example: "A misty mountain at golden hour, dramatic fog rolling through pine trees, cinematic lighting, epic landscape photography"
Choosing a Style preset also automatically adds quality-enhancing keywords to your prompt.
Yes. While generating, the Generate button changes to a red Cancel button. Tap it to stop generation immediately. The app will cancel gracefully without an error message.
Luminance supports Square (1:1), Landscape (4:3), Portrait (3:4), Widescreen (16:9), and Tall Portrait (9:16).
You can generate 1 to 4 images per prompt. Set the count in the Style Controls section before tapping Generate.
The free version includes 5 image generations. After that, you'll need to upgrade to Luminance Pro for unlimited generations.

Both plans are billed through Apple's App Store. Cancel anytime from your Apple ID subscription settings.
Open the app → tap the Settings icon → tap Upgrade to Pro → tap Restore. Sign in with your Apple ID if prompted. Your subscription will be restored instantly.
Go to iPhone Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Luminance and tap Cancel Subscription. You'll retain Pro access until the end of your billing period.
No. Luminance does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything — your prompts, your generated images, your usage — stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Images are stored within the app's gallery. You can save them to your iPhone/iPad Photos app at any time by tapping the save icon. Images are never uploaded to any cloud service.
Deleting the app removes all images in the app gallery. Images you've saved to your Photos library are not affected. Your Pro subscription remains active in your Apple ID and can be restored if you reinstall the app.
